From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a thrilling plot including angels, demons, and dark forces expanding in strength within the urban setting.
Note: Key plot points for the latest installment of this adventure lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
The third episode finished on a dramatic pause and introduced the first table of adventurers who will separate from the main group to begin their own adventure, separate from the other two tables.
The Soldiers table consists of Teor (played by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that having everyone at the same party would be impossible.
Hence, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three separate parties: Soldiers, Strategists, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
As described by the DM, the warrior group is for participants who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented story mode where non-violent answers are scarce.
Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander might appear mismatched, but the events of the latest installment make it clear why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
For one thing, the party understands precisely where to proceed after a brutal first encounter with the enemy group.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose passing started the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and taking all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
The traitor then settled his liabilities and ran away to a secure base in the northern region, beyond the city, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each character has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:
- The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, seeks revenge.
- The adventurer has experience in the region and cautions that it is a nasty location.
- The strong character and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to eliminate the target and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their position as important members in House Halovar could assist the group enter locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, The grateful character pledged a eternal obligation to The savior for his deliverance and will now follow him wherever.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the powers that govern the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- The warrior and The healer betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by the family.
This leaves them few options but to travel to the remote area in quest for the traitor.
Future Episodes
According to episode three’s post-show segment, we learn that the Soldiers table won’t be around next week, leaving the other eight cast members to round up the Explorers and Strategists tables.
Audiences can anticipate finding out which players will be where in the story’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
